Vinted doesn't publish its algorithm — here's what we know
Let's be clear: Vinted publishes no official documentation on its ranking algorithm. What follows comes from three sources: empirical observations from the seller community, A/B tests run by power sellers, and partial reverse-engineering of Vinted's public APIs. Nothing guaranteed, but strong convergence on the main factors.
Disclaimer: everything below can change overnight. Vinted tunes its algorithm regularly, like every platform.
The 7 factors, ordered by importance
1. Recency (the number-one factor)
This is by far the most decisive factor. Vinted favours items that were recently posted or relisted. An item that's 2 days old will systematically outrank an identical one that's 10 days old, all else being equal.
Practical consequence: if you do nothing for 7 days, your items practically disappear from active searches, no matter how good they are. The fix: regular relisting.
2. Photo quality
Vinted likely scores image quality through signals like resolution, average brightness and chromatic consistency. More pragmatically, the algorithm watches click-through rate on your items: photos that convert send a strong positive signal.
The rules that work: 4 to 8 photos minimum, natural light (no direct flash), clean neutral background, detail shots of label and any flaws. A single flash photo in a dark corner kills your ranking.
3. Title and description
Vinted indexes your text to match it against user searches. Relevant keywords at the start of the title (brand + size + condition) are essential. An empty or rushed description hurts your visibility on long-tail searches — the ones serious buyers actually run.
Optimal format: Brand — item type — size — colour — condition, followed by a 100-word minimum description covering fabric, measurements, defects, purchase context.
4. Price vs. the market
The algorithm looks at the price distribution of similar items. Too low (below the 25th percentile) triggers suspicion — the algorithm assumes a problem (broken, fake, scam). Too high (above the 75th percentile) generates few favourites, which drags you down on factor 6.
The sweet spot: between the median and 60th percentile of comparable items. Vinted rewards you for being "reasonably competitive".
5. Seller activity and reputation
Vinted favours active, well-rated accounts. Three sub-factors here: the favourite/view ratio (a closet-quality signal), the message response rate (ideally >80% within 24h), and the average rating (4.5 stars minimum to stay near the top).
A 3-star account or one with a 30% response rate will systematically be demoted, no matter how good the item is.
6. Past engagement on the item
If an item has been liked by a user, it will be surfaced to similar profiles (classic collaborative filtering). The first few favourites on a listing are decisive — that's why paid bumps or relisting have so much impact: they reopen the discovery window.
7. Category and tags
Wrong category = your item shows up in the wrong searches. Secondary tags (colour, pattern, occasion) are underused by 80% of sellers — filling them in puts you ahead of competition on precise searches.
What doesn't work (common myths)
- "Add emojis to titles": false, sometimes counter-productive. Emojis can disrupt search tokenization.
- "Post at a specific hour": measurable but weak impact. Better to be regular than to micro-optimize timing.
- "Buy followers": detected and penalized. Vinted compares your growth to realistic baselines.
- "Put #vintage #vintedfr in the description": Vinted doesn't index hashtags like Instagram.
How long does it take to see the effect of a change?
Allow 7 to 14 days to observe the impact of a tweak (new price, new photos, regular relisting). Vinted isn't reactive like Google Search — the algorithm refreshes ranking in cycles.
If you change 10 parameters at once and nothing moves in 3 days, don't panic. Give it 2 weeks before judging.
Automate factor #1 (recency)
Redrip relists your Vinted closet automatically, on safe-calibrated cadences. Never again will your items go invisible because they're 8 days old.

How do I get to the top of Vinted search results?
Stack the 7 factors: relist regularly, pro photos, price in the sweet spot, long description, well-rated profile, correct category. No magic shortcut.
Does Vinted favour Pro accounts?
Yes, slightly. Pro accounts (with subscription) get a moderate visibility boost, but it won't make up for a poorly optimized closet.
How often does Vinted change its algorithm?
No official communication. Community observations suggest meaningful adjustments every 3 to 6 months, with smaller tweaks more often.
