Who pays in case of loss

Good news: Vinted, not you. If the parcel is officially lost (the carrier confirms), Vinted reimburses the buyer AND pays out your sale. You lose nothing.

Condition: Vinted's shipping label used (Mondial Relay, La Poste, etc. via Vinted). If you ship off-platform, you're no longer covered.

Timelines to declare a parcel lost

Mondial Relay: if the parcel hasn't moved for 7 days in tracking, it's considered lost. You can start the procedure on day 8.

La Poste / Colissimo: 21 days without movement = officially lost.

UPS / Chronopost: 14 days.

Before these timelines, the parcel is just "delayed". Be patient.

Step-by-step procedure

For the buyer

1. Go to the purchase conversation → "Help Center" button → "My parcel hasn't arrived". 2. Vinted asks for tracking + expected date. 3. Standard timeline: 5 business days of investigation. 4. If loss confirmed → automatic refund (item + BPF + shipping costs).

For the seller

You don't have to do ANYTHING. Vinted handles it with the carrier. You'll be notified if the procedure ends in a buyer refund — but you'll still get paid.

Edge cases

Buyer claims non-receipt but tracking says "delivered"

If tracking confirms delivery (pickup point signed, mailbox confirmed), you're covered. Vinted refuses the buyer refund. Keep the tracking record.

Parcel returned to sender

If the buyer hasn't picked up at the pickup point within 14 days → automatic return to you. The transaction is canceled, buyer refunded, you get the item back. No penalty but a waste of time.

Parcel arrived damaged

The buyer opens a dispute within 48h of receipt via "All good" → "No, there's a problem". Photos required. Vinted arbitrates.

How to reduce the risk

Always use the Vinted label (never a personal shipment). Properly protect the parcel (solid cardboard not a plastic mailer for fragile items). Stick the label cleanly (not folded, not creased). Keep a photo of the parcel before drop-off at the pickup point. Ask for a drop-off receipt.

What to tell a stressed-out buyer

"Hi, I understand your concern. The parcel is in [carrier]'s hands. For now the official timeline hasn't been passed, let's wait until [date]. If still nothing on that date, you can start the dispute procedure via Vinted, they handle everything. I'm reimbursed too so we're both protected. Keep me posted."

Avoid: "Not my problem" or "Ask the carrier". Maintaining the connection calms things down and avoids negative reviews.

Unfair negative review after a lost parcel

If the buyer leaves you 1 star when the loss isn't your fault, you can report the review via the help center. Vinted frequently removes these reviews if tracking confirms drop-off + carrier loss.

Recap

Vinted covers losses if the official label is used. Seller still gets paid. Timelines 7-21 days depending on carrier. Procedure on the buyer's side. Keep proof of drop-off + tracking. Communicate without panicking.
